An Ohio mother of two was sentenced to 10 days in jail and placed on three years probation after sending her kids to a school district in which they did not live. Kelly Williams-Bolar was…
Stay in your station. What is that? Trying to rise up behind our backs? We will show you. We will show ALL of you.
My mom did a similar thing to send my sister to a better elementary school. The penalty this woman faced is outrageous all obvious classist and racist elements aside. What sort of judge can call themselves just when they fault a mother for wanting the best for her children. It’s clear who the real criminals are here.
“Being born a woman is an awful tragedy… Yes, my consuming desire to mingle with road crews, sailors and soldiers, bar room regulars to be a part of a scene, anonymous, listening, recording — all is spoiled by the fact that I am a girl, a female always in danger of assault and battery. My consuming interest in men and their lives is often misconstrued as a desire to seduce them, or as an invitation to intimacy. Yet, God, I want to talk to everybody I can as deeply as I can. I want to be able to sleep in an open field, to travel west, to walk freely at night…”—
Thanks to my wonderful friends I felt very loved this birthday. I have some awesome people in my life. Aside from that i think it’s time to listen to sad music and go through my annual moment of birthday depression, I’ve put it off long enough today.
“The effacement of the clitoris extends even to Anne Frank’s Diary of a Young Girl. When the unabridged edition of the diaries were released in 1995, the 50th anniversary of her death, they included the previously deleted passages that contained some of Anne’s negative remarks about her housemates and parents as well as a lengthy entry from March 24, 1944 in which she describes her vulva, clitoris, and vagina from the perspective of her own fifteen year old gaze: “…Until I was eleven or twelve, I didn’t realize there was a second set of labia on the inside, since you couldn’t see them. What’s even funnier is that I thought urine came out of the clitoris…When you’re standing up, all you see from the front is hair. Between your legs there are two soft, cushiony things, also covered with hair, which press together when you’re standing, so you can’t see what’s inside. They separate when you sit down and they’re very red and quite fleshy on the inside. In the upper part, between the outer labia, there’s a fold of skin that, on second thought, looks like a kind of blister. That’s the clitoris…”—
I don’t really have a favorite book, movie, song, band, food, artist or color (though I’m fond of purple) when people ask me about these things my mind erupts into thought and then goes blank, because I have thoroughly enjoyed so many different songs, books, movies, exhibits and colors. These things help define us in a way and I don’t like to define myself in short with one from each category. Don’t ask me what my favorite ____ is ask me what I’ve been into lately because it changes, because I am fluid, my favorites change with each day and each experience.
Today I’m liking some songs by The Wake, pale blues and Jasmin tea. I wish I had more time to finish the three books I’ve started, I’ve been revisiting Ilse Bing’s photography lately. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a movie that really hit me (though I did recently watch a British film called Franklyn with some pleasing scenic), usually I enjoy a good documentary. I’m liking Henrik Ibsen for obvious reasons (Heddatron). The day is still young and even these things may change.
